Introduction

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme involves big energy companies contributing money for energy efficiency improvements in homes. To get one of these improvements done in your home through the ECO scheme, we have to gather some personal information from you and share it with other organizations. We'll only collect and use your data as explained here, following our legal responsibilities and your rights.

We get your information directly, and it might include:

Your name, address, and sometimes your date of birth (to check if you qualify for the scheme and contact you about your installation).

Proof of identity (this might be needed to show a supporting component or for eligibility proof).

Copies of documents proving benefits and income given to you by the Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC (limited to info proving you qualify for the scheme).

Your phone number and email address (so we can contact you as needed for the purpose mentioned in this notice).

Optionally, the amount you've paid for the installation (to help the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy plan future schemes).

Providing Your Personal Information

We'll let you know if giving certain personal information is optional. Otherwise, you must provide your details, or we can't install an improvement in your home under the ECO scheme.

Using Your Personal Information (Legal Basis and Purpose)

We'll handle your personal information:

- To fulfill our agreement with you, for example, to manage and carry out the contract (including installing an improvement in your property).

- To pursue our valid interests, for example, to confirm your eligibility for the ECO scheme, share your data with third parties supporting or enforcing the ECO scheme (as detailed in 'Sharing Your Personal Information'), and gather the amount you've contributed for the installation.

- To comply with a legal duty, for example, when you use your rights to make requests under data protection law.

Sometimes, we might need to handle special types of information (e.g., details related to your health as evidence for your eligibility). In these cases, we'll give you separate details on how we'll handle your data and its legal basis.

Sharing Your Personal Information

We will share your personal information with:

1. The Department for Work and Pensions may analyze your data to provide a YES/NO response via the Energy Saving Trust to confirm your eligibility for the scheme based on relevant benefits.

2. The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) will:.

Your provided information may be sent to third parties outside the European Union, but only if necessary for the mentioned purpose. We'll ensure all proper protections, as the ICO recommends, are in place before any transfer.

Your data will only be used for ECO-related purposes unless you agree otherwise.

How Long We Keep Your Information

For measures with a twenty-five-year guarantee (like wall insulation), we might keep your data for up to twenty-five years or as long as the guarantees last.

For all other measures, we might keep your information for up to seven years after the scheme finishes, following HM Revenue & Customs record guidelines.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy will keep some details, including your address (but not your name or other personal info), for up to 25 years for statistical purposes.
